📧 2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report | 05.23.24
Hi there.
Ed here.
This week, I want to talk about leadership in project management.
Not about you being a more effective project leader, “leadership talk.”
But rather your current leaders or the leaders you hope to work with in the future and what they think about the future of AI in work generally, and for our purposes, project management.
Last week, LinkedIn & Microsoft published their joint 2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report. 1
We’ll break down the whole thing by subtopic over the next few weeks, but today, I wanted to share some of the data points that popped out at me:
71% of leaders say they would rather hire a less experienced candidate with AI skills than a more experienced candidate without AI skills.
69% of people say AI can help get them promoted faster at their current company, and 79% say it will broaden their job opportunities.
66% of leaders say they would not hire someone without AI skills.
78% of AI users bring their AI tools and resources to work.
However, even with all this gusto from senior leaders about how important AI is in their decision-making process around people…
If nearly 75% of leaders would hire less qualified “AI capable” candidates, why are they not training their existing employees?!
This is why it’s more important now than ever to take your learning journey into your own hands and build AI skills without waiting for your leadership to catch up.
AND , once you’ve started that journey, be vocal about your newfound expertise.
Post on LinkedIn about courses you’ve taken or certificates you’ve earned ( I hope we’re connected so I can follow your journey!).
Make time to talk to your leadership about your interests in AI and what you’re doing to be a thought and action leader.
They’re hearing about it from their leaders, I can assure you of that!
Let’s learn together.
